Server Down

Is anyone else having difficulty with the server? We were working on our project and then suddenly we could not get access to our files.

Bud, what should we do if the server doesn't come back until late tomorrow. We have all the requirements complete, but we still need to print out our files, tweak a little of the functionality, and run the lsttab report.

Google Labs: New search technology from Google

One of my friends who's a CS major showed me this today; I thought it was awesome so I'm blogging about it now.

If you go to the more section when you pull up the main Google page and then click on Google labs, there are two new searches available- Google Suggest & Google Scholar.

1) Google Suggest gives you possible searches that you may want to perform as well as the associated number of hits that will be generated.

2) Google Scholar allows you to search through journal articles and abstracts so if your working on a research paper and need  credible sources you can use this search engine to narrow your hits.

Hope this helps everyone in their future Google searches.

Blog Directories

For those of you interested in continuing to learn through blogging, I have come across several helpful blog directories. The following are the top three I have used:

Blogarama

Blogwise

Blog Search Engine

These three site allow you to search for keywords or through blog categories. If you don't find these sites useful you can always fall back on Google.

Blogging about Blogging

Overall I feel that blogging has been a very positive experience. I personally have used blogging for the following purposes:

    Posting Interesting IT articles
    Asking Project Questions
    Learning more about class concepts
    Preparing for the exam    
    Giving Special Recognition

I also have found blogging to be a liberating experience because I am able to express myself about virtually any topic, whenever I want. I also must say that even though I have not been the most active poster in the blogosphere, I have enjoyed and benefited from reading everyone's blogs.

I hope that future BIT classes (not just 320) will utilize this technology as a learning tool because I believe it gives students an important forum to share ideas, knowledge, and experience.

View Requirement

As we have continued working on the project, our group has been debating whether or not we have to create table views using the views we created in project 1. Do we have to use the views from project 1, or can we create completely different ones.

Cache Issues During Class

Several groups were having problems with cache space as they were working on their project today in class. To resolve the problem just go to tools, internet options and empty internet files. I have it on good word this should resolve the problem.

LINUX Commands

Hey Everyone,

If some of you were having trouble navigating the secure shell because you kept forgetting linux commands, here is a website that may help you: Linux Commands.

The site is just a list of commands that you can print out and reference there are also links to other pages that can provide additional resources.

I think someone may have posted some information on linux commands at the beginning of the year, but just in case, here it is again.

Dynamic Queries

This is a question that anybody can answer, but I think you, Bud, are going to be the one who can guide us. We want to be able to run dynamic queries to retrieve information from the database via a search with input fields. This may be beyond the scope of our class but if you believe it is something we could tackle, Tom, Marissa, Elizabeth, and I would appreciate any resources that you believe may help us tackle this challenge.
